Kentuckiana Lodge unleashed its first two-year-olds of the New Year when Spirit Of Anarchy and Magician trialled well at Ashburton on Tuesday.

Both horses got top marks from Cran and Chrissie Dalgety following their one-two finish in a three-horse two-year-old heat.

The mission was a simple one for Spirit Of Anarchy and Magician, they headed to Ashburton to further their education and to show they can take the manners the have showed on the training track to the trial track.

Spirit Of Anarchy got a 10/10 for his ringcraft while Magician scored 9.5/10.

“That was very pleasing, both horses handled the occasion well and they ran around like professional little racehorses,” Cran said.

“They weren’t there to break the track record but the overall time and the sectionals were a step up from their training and it did show they are heading in the right direction.”

“Spirit Of Anarchy was very professional, he left the gate nicely and rolled along in the lead like he had done it a hundred times.”

“You have them well-schooled at home but seeing them do it in public is where it really counts.”

“Magician was great, he did get a little lost on the home turn.”

“He is a very laidback type so it wasn’t surprising, but when he realised what he was there for he sprinted up very well.”

“If we are being very critical we will take half a point off him for that.”

“Overall he has rounded off very nicely and I am thrilled with him too.”

As much as Cran would love to have grand plans for his two-year-old pairing, he will let Spirit Of Anarchy and Magician do the talking on the trials track.

“They will trial again next week and that will give us another good guide on our plans going forward.”

“Both of these horses are in the well above average category and they have certainly put their hands up as early running types.”

“But they will tell us with their progression through the trials what sort of game plan we should be taking.”

“One thing is for sure though, the owners are going to have a bit of fun with these guys.”

Coney Island Lou trialled outstandingly at Ashburton on Tuesday, running sizzling sectionals to score.

The three-year-old will trial again next week before targeting a race.

Chicago Bear, Darby O’Gill and Fernetti each had conditioning runs to bring them closer to racing.

They should take good benefit from their outings and they will also trial again next week.
