Kentuckiana Lodge will roll out more smart two-year-olds when Franco Mecca and Carmelite make their debuts over the weekend.

Watermelon Sugar, Coney Island Lou, Light Up The Fire and Black Pearl have been part of a powerful two-year-old line up who have made an almighty impact through their first starts in the past fortnight for trainers Cran and Chrissie Dalgety.

Black Pearl heads to Addington on Friday night, attempting to back up the emphatic five and a half-length debut she produced at Ashburton recently.

Franco Mecca has the daunting task of clashing with the filly following her big win.

Though Black Pearl has the race day form on the board, Cran thinks Franco Mecca can keep pace with his fellow Kentuckiana Lodge pacer in his first race day outing.

“There wouldn’t be a lot between them at all.”

“Obviously Black Pearl has been there and done it now, but she is a filly taking on the boys this time which is never easy.”

“She is a lovely filly and we would expect her to race very honest.”

“But Franco Mecca has trialled nice and he wouldn’t be inferior to her at all.”

“He has some class of his own and we are expecting a bold debut.”

“You would think Charlie Brown would be the horse to beat after he won last week but our two should keep him honest.”

Kentuckiana Lodge have two more of their smart two-year-olds heading to Rangiora on Sunday.

Carmelite will debut after impressing in her trials, lining up beside her stablemate Light Up The Fire.

Both fillies look well placed in their maiden assignment.

“Carmelite is a lovely filly and she won her last trial very nice.”

“She cruised up the straight and didn’t have to be asked for too much.”

“She is a very natural type and drawn 5, she should be right there you would think.”

“We have put a line straight through Light Up The Fire’s first start at Ashburton.”

“She didn’t go too bad, running on from the back, but really she is much better than that.”

“She just had a bad day at the office and we have changed a few things with her and we are expecting her to show what she is really capable of on Sunday.”

Kentuckiana Lodge line up just one older horse over the weekend in Rakanotta in race 7 on Sunday.

Drawn barrier 2, the mare looks a huge winning chance.

“We would absolutely love if she could win for her owner Brendon Fahy and we will be doing everything to get her there.

“She has been racing super and she should give them something to catch.”

Kentuckiana Lodge had two horses at the workouts earlier this week and both performed well.

Fun To Come won his 2000m heat at Rangiora with Defy Me close up in third.
