Last week Kentuckiana Lodge and Brendan Fahy went to battle, this week they shared in the thrill of victory.
Cran and Chrissie Dalgety were delighted they were able to secure a well-deserved win for their Southland owner when Rakanotta ran to victory at Addington on Thursday night.
Just five days prior, Kentuckiana Lodge and Brendan Fahy filled the trifecta in the Diamond Creek Farm Oamaru Juvenile Stakes.
Watermelon Sugar sprinted to an impressive victory up the passing lane, with his stablemate Franco Mecca running a brave third.
Splitting the pair was Brendan Fahy’s promising two-year-old, Rakamurph a relative of Rakanotta.
“We were thrilled that Rakanotta was able to salute for Brendan tonight,” Cran said.
“It has been a very tough time for his family recently.”
“This mare is as honest as they come and a lovely staying mare who just keeps trucking.”
“Her last three starts were all over the sprint trips.”
“We have been busting to get her up over 2600m at Addington and she showed what she can do.”
“With her rating, she is still reasonably well off after tonight and I don’t think there is any reason she wouldn’t be able to grab another one if we can find a race over a decent trip for her.”
“With Brendan being a significant breeder I am sure he is looking to get this mare’s record looking pretty flash.”
“She has already got a nice record but I think can put a few more good things on it before she goes to stud.”
Carter Dalgety found a lovely spot in the one-one for Rakanotta, who was one out and two back from the bell.
Carter peeled the mare out at the 500m and she sustained a big finish to score over Watching Our Coin from the Murray Edmonds barn.
Addington held an outstanding fundraising evening for Murray Edmonds and his family as Murray faces a health battle.
“It was fantastic to see the harness racing community rally around to support the Edmonds family,” Cran said.
“When times are tough in this game everyone gets together to support each other.”
“We have had a wonderful association with Murray for many years and we are hoping he can get well soon.”
Aimee Edmonds, Sandi Curtin and Stevie Golding were among those that spearheaded the fundraising efforts.
