She’s only been at Kentuckiana Lodge a matter of days but Lot 18 is already impressing Cran Dalgety and the team.

In the second in this series of articles taking a close look at Kentuckiana Lodge’s National Yearling Sales purchases, we focus in on the Sweet Lou filly from Bettor Babe.

The yearling is from a family that is running red hot recently with Bettor Babe a full sister to Spanish Armada.

Her pedigree is so rich that outstanding performers like Duke Of Wellington and Duke Of Cornwall can’t even fit on the page.

Lot 18’s pedigree was the perfect match up for Cran given the strength of her dam’s side and Kentuckiana Lodge having had more success than most with the progeny of Sweet Lou.

Of course, the filly had to pass muster when Cran ran his eye over her.

And she certainly did.

“She was one I had marked down early on because of her page.”

“It has been a very good family but also one that has come right back into the fore recently.”

“So we were thinking we might jump on board while they are running hot.”

“When I saw her in the flesh that really sealed the deal, she was certainly going to be on our hit-list then.”

“We came back on sale day a few weeks later and she was only looking better, so to pick her up for a very fair price was a great result for us.”

Cran was taken by Lot 18’s conformation, but particularly with the filly being an early running type.

“She is certainly one that looks like she will be getting up and about early.”

“She is strong but compact, she’s just that size and stature to be able to handle the workload needed to get to the two-year-old races.”

“On type she is lovely and correct, she’s just a lovely filly really.”

Lot 18 is in the early stages of her breaking in process and she has impressed the team at Kentuckiana Lodge already.

“So far she has taken to it like a duck to water.”

“She seems to have a good nature and a good attitude about her.”

“Its always a good starting point, it doesn’t make them run faster but we think it is hugely important that young horses are willing to work with you and want to be out on the track.”

“We are only in the early stages so fingers crossed it continues, but so far she is a little gem.”

There are a small number of shares remaining in Lot 18 but they are sure to be sold soon.
