Krug got a massive tick of approval at the trials this week and now it is Republican Party’s turn to keep the great momentum at Kentuckiana Lodge going.

Krug made another flying beginning from the standing start tapes in a trial at Rangiora on Wednesday in an effort trainers Cran and Chrissie Dalgety rated as just about perfect.

The chances of Republican Party also making a scorching beginning when he steps out at Addington on Friday night aren’t as high.

And it is not because he doesn’t have the gate speed to lead.

The classy three-year-old returns to the track to build on his excellent record on the back of a smart trial win last week.

Republican Party has drawn barrier 9 over 1980m on Friday night with Carter Dalgety to do the driving.

From that horror draw, Carter might have to weave his magic to find a sweet spot for the three-year-old.

“We are rapt with the way he has come up, he has taken really good benefit from his break,” Cran said.

“As you would expect we have some big goals in the coming weeks and months and this race is the starting point for those.”

“We are handing the reins to Carter and it will be up to him, but I can see the horse settling back in the field.”

“You can’t go blasting out and getting stuck out wide in your first race back.”

“Hopefully Carter can slot him in somewhere and we can be steaming home.”

“He doesn’t lack for any speed and I have no doubt he will be hitting the line strongly.”

“If he can do that it will be another very good step forward after his trial last week.”

The Kentuckiana team have been thrilled with the way Krug has come through his trial on Wednesday.

That means the chances of him heading to Oamaru for the Hannon Memorial look high.

“At this stage the plan is to head to the Hannon,” Cran said.

“We will monitor things between now and then, but everything has been spot on with him in his two trials.”

“He has stepped away fast in both, which we have been rapt about.”

“Being off back marks, he has been off the pace and sprinted him in some very good sectionals in both trials.”

“We will keep our fingers crossed and hope things keep progressing well.”

The Hannon Memorial is set to be run on Sunday, September 18.
