Kentuckiana Lodge pacer Coney Island Lou has massive shoes to fill but he so far he is doing an outstanding job.

The two-year-old could not have been more impressive when speeding to victory at Addington on Friday night, clearing maidens by almost four lengths in just his second start.

Coney Island Lou came to Cran and Chrissie Dalgety’s stable after he was selected and purchased at the National Yearling Sales by Perth owner Peta-Ann Congerton.

Congerton and husband Mark have raced a long list of good horses, including some of the biggest stars of Australasian harness racing like I’m Themightyquinn and King Of Swing.

Coney Island Lou has a big task in front of him if he is to emulate the deeds of those two certified champions.

But the Sweet Lou gelding has done everything perfectly in his two starts to date and he has shown his trainers he has the class to carve out a pretty good reputation of his own.

“He’s only had two starts but he’s already shown he has all the weapons he needs to do a pretty good job,” Cran said.

“He worked home very nice first up when he sat in and this time he has used his gate speed to lead up and run very strong to the line.”

“He is just a lovely horse and obviously being very adaptable is going to help him going forward.”

“Mark and Peta-Ann have had some big thrills in this game, it is a bit early to say whether we can win them another Interdominion.”

“But this horse is a very nice type and I think they are in for some good adventures with him.”

Coney Island Lou pulled up well after his easy victory on Friday night and will now head to the paddock.

“A wee freshen up will do him the world of good right now,” Cran said.

“It is great to go out on a good note, he can have a month off now.”

“With plenty of feed and some time off he should come back bigger and stronger, which is exciting considering what he has already done.”

The Dalgetys plan to have Coney Island Lou back in action in time to compete in heats of the Sires Stakes Series.
