Carter Dalgety is proving harness racing operates in a small world with his continued success in North America.

Dalgety’s whirlwind USA trip only gets better the longer he stays, with the reinsman continuing his strong results with a winning treble of drives at Philadelphia on Saturday (New Zealand time).

Two of Dalgety’s three winners were by Sweet Lou, who has provided the driver with most of his wins in North America.

It is appropriate the sire has been a key part of Dalgety’s success considering Sweet Lou’s former trainer Ron Burke and the stallion’s owners Mark Weaver, Mike Bruscemi, Larry Karr and Phil Collura are owners with Dalgety’s parents Cran and Chrissie at Kentuckiana Lodge.

Dalgety loves a Sweet Lou and enjoyed success with the sire when Fernetti, who he purchased and syndicated, among friends and family, won at Addington on Friday night.

“The connection was have with Sweet Lou is pretty cool and it has been great to have some success with them over here.”

“Beach Rose who I won with is a very impressive filly, she ran the fastest time this year in her first start.”

“I was lucky enough to go to Ron’s and train horses at his place, that was a great thrill.”

“He runs a big operation and has a huge amount of success, so to get some insights into how he does things.”

“We have had a great run of success with the Sweet Lous at home as everyone knows.”

Carter had a huge day ahead of him at Philadelphia with 14 drives.

To rein home a winning treble on American soil was hugely satisfying for the reinsman.

“It was amazing, the support I got to have a drive in every race on a 14-race card.”

“I just wanted to repay the faith the trainers put in me and luckily enough we were able to get three of them home.”

“It was a huge buzz.”

24 hours later, Dalgety was at The Meadowlands for the huge Hambletonian meeting.

The reinsman played a key role, warming up horses for leading trotting trainer Ake Svanstedt who won five races, including three of the feature stakes races, with the Hambletonian Oaks among them.
